Nearly 50 dogs rescued by Jefferson County

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office served a search and seizure warrant for the property on June 29 at approximately 7 a.m. and found that many animals were in need of urgent veterinary care and living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions.

Forty-six dogs have been removed from the property by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office pending the final disposition of this case.

Chris Schindler, director of animal crimes for The HSUS’ Animal Rescue Team said: “No animal should ever be forced to live in conditions like we’ve seen today. We’re thankful to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for taking action to help these animals.”

The Humane Society of the United States was called in by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the rescue of 46 dogs from a Redfield, Arkansas, property.

The HSUS’ Animal Rescue Team is safely transporting the animals to a temporary emergency animal shelter where the dogs will be thoroughly examined by a team of veterinarians and receive any necessary immediate medical treatment.

Responders from RedRover are assisting with the temporary caretaking of the animals, and Greater Good, Rescue Bank, Halo and PetSmart Charities™ are providing food and financial support at the temporary shelter.

Local law enforcement became aware of this facility when a concerned citizen came forward. When responders arrived on scene they found 46 dogs living in deplorable conditions. Many of the animals were extremely unsocialized, living in feces and filth and did not have access to clean water or food.

Major Lafayette Woods, Jr. of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said: “I am relieved that we were able to come to the aid of these dogs today. We have tried to work with the owner to ensure the proper care of the animals, but we reached the point that the animals had to be removed for their well-being.

The HSUS, Humane Society of Saline County and local veterinarians assisted authorities with the rescue and removal of the animals.
