The Labrador retriever we know today comes from a fishing and retrieving dog out of Newfoundland and Labrador, an Atlantic coastal province in Canada near the Labrador Sea. It’s related to the modern Newfoundland dog.
What's In a Name
Originally, Labs were called St. John’s dogs, named after the capital of Newfoundland.
