
German Origins
The boxer dog breed originated in Germany in the late 19th century. When World War I broke out, boxers were enlisted in the military to serve as messenger dogs, and act as attack and guard dogs.
Coming to America
Boxers gained popularity in the United States in the 1940s when soldiers returning from World War II brought the breed back with them. Boxers soon became a favorite companion animal, show dog and guard dog.
